Violent Delights

Violence | Intimacy | Movement

Violent Delights is a new violence design team in Chicago created by Amber Wuttke and Jay Donley. What started off as friends helping friends in 2011, it quickly grew into a creative dream team. With 10 years of experience in performance, teaching, and designing of stage combat, Violent Delights guarantees riveting storytelling through violence when words are no longer enough. Through fight-logic and creativity, scenes that require heightened action will bloom onstage. Most importantly, with safety instilled, actors will have a greater ability to deliver.

Combined, Amber and Jay blend artistry and grace, militant empowerment, and cultivated expertise to bring violent delights to the stage.

ARTISTS

Amber Wuttke

Amber began down the path of stage combat in college, under the tutelage of H. Russ Brown in 2008 at UW-Stevens Point. From the first throw of a punch, she was hooked. Becoming a quick student, it wasn't long before assistant teaching and designing came into fruition. Moving to Chicago opened up a world of possibilities, and has been able to design and teach through-out the Chicagoland area. Whether it's for a high school production or for a professional company, Amber prides herself in making violence design engaging, realistic story-telling, and most importantly safe for all performers.

Jay Donley

Jay Donley began his stage combat journey at the tender age of four when his aunt Polly gave him a plastic sword and shield. Ever since he has been making short films, and trying to emulate swashbuckling he has seen in the pictures. In 2008 he was lucky enough to take a stage combat course at his alma mater, Eastern Michigan University. This would set him down the path of studying staged fighting. He would go on to take multi-week long workshops with the Society of American Fight Directors, further honing his craft, and reading anything he could find on combat and stunts.

Now living in Chicago he continues to apply his trade teaching workshops, and creating choreography for schools and companies wherever he can. Jay Donley is most proud of his ability to create compelling narrative moments in fights, spin a fabulous yarn, and the time he once wrestled a more than slightly tipsy adult brown bear to a begrudging draw.
